Dear fellow citizen of Utrecht,

Welcome to the website of the ClimateDoorbell, an initiative by Extinction Rebellion Utrecht. Together, we are deeply concerned about global warming and the loss of biodiversity.

On July 11, 2019, five years ago, the municipality of Utrecht declared a climate emergency. The city council tasked the mayor and aldermen with making maximum efforts to limit global warming.

Five years later, too few steps have been taken to reduce CO₂ emissions and halt climate change. The municipality aims to be climate-neutral by 2030, but still lacks up-to-date and concrete plans to achieve this.

It can be different. Already, 33 cities outside the Netherlands have managed to achieve results. Our city cannot lag behind. Examples of irreversible climate change are piling up in the news.

The climate crisis is NOW!

That is why we urge you to sign our petition with three demands to the municipality of Utrecht:

1. Achieve climate neutrality in line with your own goal by 2030.
2. Create annual concrete plans and interim goals that clearly show how you will reduce CO2 emissions, so citizens can monitor the progress.
3. Ensure climate justice and actively involve citizens.

With this petition, we show that we, the citizens of Utrecht, expect the council members, aldermen, and the mayor to act decisively, transparently, and unitedly to combat global warming. The urgency is enormous!
